Dave's Dried Edamame
EPIC ULTRA, & other healthy products
High protein snacks are a very common problem for weight loss patients, aka gastric bypass patients, Roux-en-Y, intestinal bypass patients, etc. Foods "labeled" for weight loss patients tend to be higher in price and more difficult to locate. Dried edamame, commonly misspelled as dryed edamame, is an excellent source of high protein, having 14 grams or protein in 1/4 cup. This means that one pound, volume of almost 4 1/4 cups, has 224+ grams of protein. This protein content is estimated by : 16 minimum 1/4 cup servings in almost 4 1/4 cups x 14 grams per 1/4 cup serving = >224 grams of protein. Dried edamame is slightly crunchy (most crunchy foods tend to be high in fats or sugars), slightly salted, a green veggie--which is the best kind, they fit into a small zip lock bag for portability, and no refrigeration is required. Other snack foods tend to be high in sugars, fats, or contain a lot of calories.
What is edamame?
Edamame is a green vegetable more commonly known as a soybean, harvested at the peak of ripening right before it reaches the "hardening" time. Photo of edamame, prior roasting is show above. The word Edamame means "Beans on Branches," and it grows in clusters on bushy branches. To retain the freshness and its natural flavor, it is parboiled and quick-frozen. In East Asia, the soybean has been used for over two thousand years as a major source of protein. Dry roasting edamame makes them a handy snack that does not need refrigeration. Dry roasted edamame pictured below.

Dried Edamame is slightly crunch, and lightly salted. Taste is similar to a shelled peanut or pistachio nut. My wife and I think they taste like peanuts and my granddaughter says they taste like pistachios. The have a pleasant, somewhat nutty taste, not bitter at all.

But searching around the Internet, the pricing is quite high for dried edamame. I've seen prices averaging a little over $2 and more for only a single 4 ounce bag, etc, PLUS SHIPPING costs. We're dealing with a local nutritional store wholesaler, and I am able to offer them for $5-6 a pound, plus shipping, depending on the quantity ordered. PayPal will be the payment needed. Credit cards or postal money orders also accepted, as explained below. Up to seven one pound bags can be placed in a flat rate mailing box to save on shipment costs. Get together with a friend or two and order a box of 7 bags to save on shipping !! Soy is a "perfect food", and edamame is ready to eat--nothing to cook or prepare. It has the protein of meat, the fiber of a whole grain, and the antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals of the best vegetables and fruits. Click HERE to read testimonials from some of my recent clients.
This is a quick photo of me before and after RNY
surgery. I'm a strong advocate for healthy ways of living, even if they require
surgery. At my pre op weight of 345, life was way too difficult. I'm
currently 189 pounds and I've always strived to find good sources of protein for
maximum health after surgery. Dried edamame is one of those great finds I though I would share with
everyone. Each time I tell people at local weight loss support meetings, people
are curious on where to find them. Now it's easy, just come to this web site. If you have any questions you'd like
answered, please feel free to call me at

From the CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest) Nutrition Action Newsletter, October, 2007: "According to the label, these roasted lightly salted green soybeans are "The Wonder Veggies." They're also "rich in isoflavones," "high protein," and "heart healthy," with "70% less fat and 40% more protein than peanuts".
And they have "only 2 net carbs" and " all 8 essential amino acids," with "no cholesterol or trans fats."
Oh yeah. Each serving has 14 grams of protein, and "25 grams of soy protein a day"...may reduce the risk of heart disease."
Whew. That's a lot to expect from any food. never mind that the latest research questions whether soy protein prevents heart disease. Or whether the isoflavones in soy foods prevent breast cancer, menopausal symptoms, or osteoporosis.
No matter. It still unusual to find a plant food that offers so much protein (14 grams per 1/4 cup serving) and fiber (8 grams), without loading you down with sodium (150mg) or calories (130).
Bottom line: Dry roasted edamame may not be a wonder food, but it makes a wonderful snack.

This is a generic UNFLAVORED whey
isolate protein. It truly has no flavor, makes foods creamier, and blends in
easily with hot or cold foods. I use it in SF pudding, Cream of Wheat, cooked
oatmeal, mix it in with vegetarian refried beans or squash or sweet potato, etc.
Just do NOT put the protein in the product while cooking. Very
affordable--$20 gets you 38 servings of 27 g of protein. Combine with other
products I have to help with protein intake and eat healthy snacks. Click

Also available are veggie chips, 5.3 oz for $5. Even though the dried veggie chips are very delicious, it's highly recommended that due to lower protein level, these should be mixed with edamame, peas, wasabe peas or soynuts for a much high protein content.

These are dried carrot chips. They are also in the veggie chip blend. But I had so many people request the just the carrot chips, I finally found a source. These are in 4 oz bags for $5 each.
